When “Do It Yourself” Is A Waste of Money

When it comes to washing your house or driveway, the typical Sears, Lowes, or Home Depot type pressure washer has a single problem. Not powerful enough! I’m not saying they don’t have their place, and work well for a number of odd jobs around the house like cleaning your car or harassing the cat. You are doomed to be disappointed with the little electric models. You’ll find these machines a waste of time. Usually they can’t even wash cobwebs off the second story eaves while standing on the ground.

I’d only purchase one that had a gas/kerosene/diesel engine and although this type of pressure washer is more powerful, how often are you really going to use it? And how much space does it take to store the gas pressure washer? You could rent a big one and haul it back and fourth to the rental place. With a big one you need to know how to us it so as not to do any damage to softer materials (i.e., wood, siding, glass).

Moving a pressure washer and all the hose around your landscaping can be back breaking work. We haven’t even talked about the proper chemicals to be used and the correct solution strength. There are many advantages to doing some things yourself. Pressure washing your house and sidewalks every few years is not one of them.
